New Carrier Regulations

ATTENTION:

Vehicle code Section 34507.5 “C” states:

IF THE RENTED VEHICLE OR COMBINATION OF VEHICLES IS OPERATED IN CONJUNCTION WITH A COMMERCIAL ENTERPRISE, THE RENTAL AGREEMENT SHALL INCLUDE THE OPORATORS CARRIER IDENTIFICATION NUMBER OR MOTOR CARRIER OF PROPERTY PERMIT NUMBER.

WHAT THIS MEANS TO YOUR COMPANY

Any company moving goods for commercial purposes in a rented truck must be registered with state or federal government as a motor carrier, and the rental company “SUD” must reference said carrier number on the rental agreement.

HOW THIS AFFECTS YOUR COMPANY

As a “commercial carrier” your company is required to register with the state or DOT and be able to provide such information when requested at inspection terminals or by law enforcement. We recommend that your company take the necessary steps to register your company in order to avoid possible grounding of the truck and possible fines. Information and links regarding permit registration can be found on our website, www.supposeudrive.com under “Legal Compliance”

SUMMARY

All “commercial renters” who will be stopping at ANY Weigh Station will be required to have their own Motor Carrier Permit (MCP) number, CA #, or DOT #.  The “customer” will still be operating under our DOT # while the truck is on rent, but according to FMCSA the “customer” will ALSO be required to have one of these registration numbers assigned to their business for tracking purposes.

Going forward all commercial customers who will be stopping at weigh stations and/or crossing state lines MUST have one of the registrations above completed and ready for review by authorities if asked.

As a service to our customers we recommend that they go to our website www.supposeudrive.com and locate the “Legal Compliance” drop-down box (right side bottom portion of the page) and select the appropriate registration application for your business type.  A “CA# & Motor Carrier Permit” will be sufficient for those companies that do not leave the state, otherwise a DOT number will be required.
